It's getting late in the game to find a fresh pie from a local baker, but we have some updated suggestions on where to go in a pinch.

Here's one low-key suggestion: Kroger and Tom Thumb have Dolly Parton pies. And they're actually better than you'd expect. Or maybe you expect greatness from the national treasure that is the Tennessee native and Jolene champion. We've had both the chocolate (it's like a light brownie but in pie form with a crispy crust) and the whipped cheesecake. Both excellent.

Spec's

Multiple Locations
Do all your shopping at Spec's this season. Their maple pecan pie, made with Crown Royal, has received some rave reviews. We haven't tried it yet, but if we were in a pinch, we'd certainly buy one. At about $20, it's not a huge loss either way.

Batch Bakery

6065 Sports Village Road, Ste. 700, Frisco
The suburban bakery, Batch, recently moved to a new home a few miles up the Dallas North Tollway in Frisco, just in time for the holidays. The owners are local who got married on March 14 or 3.14. Pi Day. How adorbs. Go basic with a pumpkin pie, or spice things up with peanut butter, pecan chocolate or chocolate cream this year. Each nine-inch pie is $29, and traditional and pumpkin cheesecakes are available for $36. Place your holiday order online.

Central Market

Multiple Locations
The Four Seasons Pie will have you raising your hand for a slice like the fully conscious Four Seasons Orlando baby. The four-way pie ($17.99) hides apple, blueberry, peach and cherry, all in one crust, to please everyone around the table. For a more traditional taste, opt for a picture-perfect cherry ($17.99), a pecan with Texas crusted in the middle ($17.99) or pumpkin cream cheese ($15.99), among other options. Get yours online.

Emporium Pies

Multiple Locations
Emporium Pies is still taking Thanksgiving orders (as of Nov. 26). And on Dec. 1, the iconic pie shop with locations in Bishop Arts, Deep Ellum, McKinney and Fort Worth will update its menu with more holiday options. Christmas classics include Father Christmas (a peppermint custard pie with chocolate cookie crust), Merry Berry (which falls somewhere between a pie, muffin and cobbler) and Snowball (a flaky crust filled with coconut custard and house-made whipped cream). Holiday pies are $48 for a whole or $8 a slice and will be on the menu until Dec. 31. Order online.

Humble Pies

9014 Garland Road
No need to be humble when the menu consists of a Damned Fine cherry pie ($55), Blossom’s Coconut Joy named after Chef Sean’s great-grandmother ($45) and a gluten-friendly, award-winning Alex’s Lemon Ice Box ($55).
