As the rain continues to pour, you might be tempted to stay in and spend the evenings on the couch. As enticing as that may be, brave the elements and get out there. There's so much great live music to be seen around town, and nothing cures the weather doldrums like the sounds of a good band. However, if you do find yourself indoors surfing the web, here are some new concert announcements of which to take note.
- Did you know that Grammy-nominated '90s star Marc Anthony is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the top-selling salsa artist of all time? Probably not. Anthony is a household name, though, with both English and Spanish albums that have sold over 30 million copies. - Pop-rock chart-toppers The 1975 are kicking things back into gear for 2019 with a lengthy tour. Interestingly titled, First, Disobey; Then Look at Your Phones, the tour is trotting around the globe with a stop at The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory on May 2. - Hip-hop duo Atmosphere is hitting the road for a lengthy 2019 tour in support of their new album, Mi Vida Local. The Lioness and DJ Keezy will be the supporting acts for most dates. Catch them locally at House of Blues on Jan. 21. Tickets are on sale Oct. 19 at livenation.com.
- Michigan-based rock band Pop Evil have been basking in the glow of their recently released, highly acclaimed self-titled album. Best known for their 2015 hits "Footsteps" and "Ways To Get High," the band has been playing to bigger audiences each time out. Catch them Jan. 20 at House of Blues. - Coming up in 2019, rock band Taking Back Sunday will launch an extensive North American tour celebrating their 20th anniversary. - Rapper Freddie Gibbs has announced a major North American tour in support of his recently released mixtape Freddie. The tour includes a Dec. 3 appearance at Trees in Dallas. Tickets are on sale Oct. 19 at ticketfly.com.
- Singer Travis Greene was a seven-time winner at the 2017 Stellar Gospel Music Awards. As one of the biggest names in the genre, he's been selling out large venues, releasing several live albums worth of material and leading enormous humanitarian outreach programs with his wife. - Chillwave aficionado Toro Y Moi is returning to the area for a Jan. 24 performance at The Granada Theater. - Alternative rock band The Revivalists had a big hit with 2015's "Wish I Knew You." This year, they've returned with another smash hit, "All My Friends."
