Yesterday Croatia shit the bed, coughing up an early lead to lose to Brazil, 1-3. I know this not just because of some World Cup app or Fiji widget on my iPhone, but because I watched the game at The Common Table, where one of the first kegs of Peticolas' Thrilla in Brazilla IPA was tapped.
The World Cup runs until July 13, and if Michael Peticolas' distribution plan goes as scheduled his new American IPA should be available throughout the tournament. Yesterday, it was only available at bars that committed to showing the opening game with the volume pegged to ten. From now on, there's a good chance the Thrilla will be available wherever you usually enjoy Peticolas beer.
What can you expect when you get yourself a glass? A twitter user asked me "on the IPA scale of standard hoppy to quite hoppy where are we standing?" It's definitely hoppy, with bitter overtones, but in a way it reminds me a lot of Velvet Hammer, which is highly hopped but balanced with other components that keep those hoppy bitter notes in check. To be clear, I do not especially enjoy hyper-hoppy beers, but I thoroughly enjoy this American IPA.
In case your monitor is set to a different configuration than mine, the color is golden, like wet straw or hay, and there's a lightly floral, citrusy flavor that's dominant. It's a great beer. And I think a lot of beer lovers are going to be disappointed when the World Cup finally draws to a close and the Thrilla is no longer available.
Of course that could all change if we show Peticolas just how much we like his creation. Get to drinking, Dallas.
