It's National Dog Day on this 26th day of August, and we know your dog is the best pup around. Time to show some love on this real dog day of summer. We've compiled a list of new and old spots were dogs are more than welcome.
Mutt's Canine Cantina is the pooch place for play dates. There's so much fluffy fun trotting around the large dog runs, it just oozes belly-scratching happiness. There are swimming pools, hoses that provided endless amounts of water chasing fun, doggie treats and libations to keep two-legged people properly chilled.
Ten Bells Tavern is basically a bar that is an ode to the best dog ever. Jack keeps watch via a big mural behind the bar and owner Meri Dhalke melts like butter at the mere mention of the pooch. The large outdoor patio in back is a great place to hang with your dog and maybe teach them a bit about proper British culture, even though we don't really know what that means.
Another owner whose life work pays homage to his great dogs is Cane Rosso's owner Jay Jerrier. The patios at his spot in Deep Ellum and White Rock Lake are regular hanging grounds for dogs of all color, not just red. Then, the new spot Zoli's, which is named after a dog as well, has a patio for dogs.
The Foundry and Chicken Scratch provide ample space in the combined large outdoor courtyard for dogs, their people and maybe even some kids (on the non-bar side anyway) to co-mingle together happily. This spot has been nominated as one of the best outdoor bars in America. The unpretentious, laid-back atmosphere is only enhanced by dogs panting lightly under picnic tables at their owners' feet.
The Gin Mill on Henderson Avenue has been known to host "Yappy Hour" to benefit the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas out on their plush patio out front. But this is a great place to bring a friendly dog any day.
Rise No. 1 in the center of Inwood Village is a long-time friend of man's best friend. If you're in the mood for a soufflé out on the patio, this is will do the trick.
Company Café and Katy Ice House along the Katy Trails are both great places to bring your dog, if they don't mind watching joggers. Some dogs get a little bitter with their owners who are sitting instead of running, because they know those people are running to chase bunnies and squirrels. How could you just sit there? If you and your pooch can handle it though, you'll be amongst many friends.
The patio atop Sundown at Granada on Lower Greenville is a great place for dogs to watch the people pass by down below. The large comfortable couches are great for snuggling with your dog as well, if that's what you need.
Full Circle Tavern is actually closed on Mondays, but any other day of the week has pretty large patio to enjoy vittles and perhaps a St. Arnold's root beer float made with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream.
Sundays are Dog Days at Lee Harvey's, for a little off-leash fun in the back. They recently even had a one year birthday party for a couple of dogs that were adopted through the League of Animal Protectors (LAP). But watch out for that house cat, Bacon.
