Cooking classes are always fun. They're non-threatening environments in which you can expand your culinary repertoire, learn new techniques and even meet someone. There's also the very real possibility of watching someone catch something on fire, which is always good for a laugh. Sur La Table's cooking classes are no exception. This Thursday, the Knox area location will host a Middle Eastern themed cooking class for $69 per person. This will be a great opportunity to learn how to roast, grill, make flatbread and season dishes just like the Middle Eastern grandmother you never had.

There's just something about having to carry a sampling card that makes drinking beer feel important. With each beer and its accompanying stamp, I feel a sense of accomplishment, like I've just appropriated something at the UN or maybe given someone a ticket for double parking. This Saturday, you too can taste the hoppy smack of satisfaction at the Big Texas Beer Festival. It will have 105 breweries and over 400 beers on hand. One $39 general admission tickets gets you a dozen 2-ounce pours, and they will be selling additional 12-pour cards on site for only $2 a pop.
