Dallas' Next Ramen Bowl Steps Up to the Plate

If you love ramen but you hate eating while you stand at Ten in Sylvan 30, and if you crave chasu but don't want to drive all the way to Raman Hakata in Addison, the next restaurant to compete for your ramen dollars will open on Greenville Avenue on June 27. Wabi House will be a casual Japanese restaurant and offer small plates and bowls of soup.

The restaurant is the work of chef Dien Nguyen, who runs kitchens for seven locations of Texas-based sushi chain Piranha Killer Sushi. Wabi House will have indoor seating, a patio outside and continue to build on Dallas' growing late-night dining trend by offering after-hours ramen. As for the ramen itself, expect tonkotsu bowls in a number of variations. The pork bone broth serves as a base for most Dallas-area ramen restaurants.

I've driven by the restaurant a number of times in the past few weeks, and the space is taking shape nicely. Expect a lot of natural wood tones, low light and exposed brick, in what should turn out to be a modern and good looking dining room. If the food keeps up with the refined looks of the space, Wabi House will be off to a good start.

Once open, the restaurant will continue to serve Greenville Avenue drinkers till 4 a.m. on the weekends, long after the bars have poured their last shots. While everyone else squabbles about the best hangover cures, you'd do better to examine preventative measures. I'll endorse ramen because of its savory, fatty flavors and hydrating broth. A bowl before you pass out, and you'll practically bounce out of bed in the morning.
